How to Play Malians
Ideal opening (Dark → Castle): Open with single-range Archers in Feudal Age — the Malian barracks/archery pierce-armor bonus and cheap buildings let your ranged units trade up. Push into Castle Age and transition those Archers into Crossbowmen, supported by gold-cost units as you tech up.
Ideal late-game composition: Lean on Hussars as your trash-line screen, place Hand Cannoneers (or Gbeto) as your gold-cost damage core, and back the line with Bombard Cannons for siege. The free gold-mining upgrades keep your two gold units affordable deep into the game.
Deathball composition (closed maps / team games): Mass Gbeto behind a wall of Siege Onagers, fold in Farimba-buffed Camels for a hard-hitting melee punch, and round out the push with Bombard Cannons or Trebuchets to crack fortifications.
