How to Play Portuguese
Ideal opening (Dark → Castle): Begin with a single-range Archer push backed by your gold-based units — the -15% gold discount lets you afford a heavier gold composition than most civs at the same number of villagers. Keep pressure up while transitioning smoothly into the Castle Age.
Ideal late-game composition: Settle on Arbalest (or Organ Gun if you commit to gunpowder) for ranged power, Halberdiers or Light Cavalry to soak up gold-free trades, and Bombard Cannon plus Bombard Towers for siege and defensive presence. Lean on the Feitoria once your gold mines run dry to keep this composition fueled.
Deathball composition (closed maps / team games): Mass Organ Guns behind a wall of Bombard Cannon, with Cavalier providing melee protection for the gunpowder core — a slow, grinding push that excels on arena-style and team-game maps.
Recommended build: Portuguese Monk Rush
