How to Play Vietnamese
Ideal opening (Dark → Castle): Lean on a Scouts opening that flows into Skirmishers, or run a Spearman-Skirmisher mix to apply early pressure cheaply. A Scouts-into-Cavalry-Archer line is also viable. Avoid committing to a one-range Archer opening — Vietnamese have no Camel to back up an Archer-heavy game, so the more flexible Scout-and-trash transitions serve you better.
Ideal late-game composition: Center your army on Rattan Archers (their pierce armor shrugs off enemy archer fire) supported by Halberdiers as your trash anti-cavalry, with Bombard Cannons for siege and demolition. If you need to economize on gold, Arbalests can stand in for some of the Rattan Archers.
Deathball composition (closed maps / team games): Mass Rattan Archers as the ranged core, screen them with Battle Elephants as a durable frontline meatshield, and add Bombard Cannons to clear buildings and enemy siege as you push.
Recommended build: Scouts into Skirmishers
